Can someone explain how this menu structure was achieved??

You are right, I checked it from another PC on my network and everything does show up.

It must have something to do with the iexplorer settings in my new sony laptop.

I can see you have made a test page but if I try to edit it the text has gone. both the html and design tabs are empty

Yes, but I had also turned that off.
it didn't make a difference

have 755 permissions as per instalation instructions, which means no 'write' permission

/content/images has 777

I have the same problem.
After saving the text in either html or design I can view the result.
This would mean that there is no 'writing' error?

it's only when I go back to the text to edit it that is is missing!!

I chmod 777 the complete site just to make sure it was not a priviledges issue ...

I am doing the 'phpWCMS Quick Start' as found on the forum.

After doing the part 'site structure' I click on the "send category data" and my page goes to http://XX.XX.XX.XX/phpwcms/include/inc_act/ and give me a listing of that directory. :oops:

The structure is not updated!

Can anyone tell me ...

I don't have an public index.html or .php.

how do visitors to my web site see the cms??
