What happened about this post?

Did any discussion take place between captain_future and Oliver?

Will any of the these new features find there way into phpwcms?

Did you (captain_future) write any modules during your development that you are going to release to this community?

Thanks
Ben

Sorry for the late answer but I was very busy recently.

To answer some questions, our version is in some bigger parts a rewrite. That's why we also don't know if a merge with the head of phpwcms is still possible or desirable at this point - this needs more investigation. We mentioned the possibility that others could become admins in SF to show that we do not plan to sit on the new project and control everything. It is open source so everybody capable to cause not to much damage would have write access to the CVS.

Anyway, this step means a lot of work for us and we are still not sure yet if it will do more good then bad. I guess it would mean to split up the community and that is a bad thing. Also, do you believe both projects could live in parallel in the long run? As someone said in a reply the main advantage of phpwcms is its simplicity - perhaps one rather sticks with simplicity then getting more new options, then risking total chaos?

Evolution is elementary, but let the community decide. Why do work twice?

If you have something that might help others and you are willing to give free even it is a rewrite or I might loose my head position. In my eyes I'm the person should have been contacted at first before throwing community into a dither.

I hope it is not too late for dialogue to take place. By letting Oliver have the code to look through we may find that some of these changes you have made were things he had planned anyway. Could you post a brief changelog of the changes made?

I believe the main point here is the evolution of Phpwcms for the benefit of the community. If developers have an idea of how to make Phpwcms better by adding new features they should discuss them with Oliver, write them, then with Oliver project managing it he can add then to the core code.

One area for open discussion would be the feature requests area on this forum, this is where this subject could have been discussed months ago.

I hope something good comes of this.

Regards
Ben
