external content - wrapper

Post by design »

I have noticed that some problems occur when I use the "external/content" (i.e. wrapper) module in PHPWCMS. For example: if a put the address of an external site then its content is of course displayed inside the template I've created, but no way to make the original CSS of the external page be properly working. Furthermore: no way neither to "embed" and external frameset (as if framesets couldn't be recognized by the browser itself) nor to make work .htaccess protected directories. In fact if I put http://mysite.ext/myprotecteddir/index.html into the external source for the wrapper and "index.html" resides into the "/myprotecteddir" dir, whose access is ruled by .htaccess and .htpasswd, then nothing is displayed: nor the original frameset on one hand, nor the authentication popup on the other.
And again: if an external page is finally displayed then why any link departing from inside such a page has a "_top" target? I would like to browse and external site *inside* my own layout, i.e.: the one I've designed for my PHPWCMS. No way: every click generates its own output outside the place in which the first page was originally fitted.

Why such a strange behaviour? I do use also other CMS, as MD-Pro or PostNuke, and the module called "PostWrap" works fine, without any kind of the above mentioned problems. Could you please suggest a way for solving this issue, which is quite annoying?

Thank you...
