Customize NAV_TABLE_COLUMN

hi there!

is it possible to customize the automaticly generated NAV_TABLE_COLUMN somehow? i'd like to insert a space between to lines to structure the menu into two parts. and i'd like to change the bg-color of two points.

i need this because my website is devided into two different content parts.
is this possible with one NAV_TABLE_COLUMN or would this be possible with two of them?

This menu can be customised in include\inc_conf\conf.template_default.inc.php.

The final appearance of the menu can be customized in great measure by editing this file: include/inc_conf/conf.template_default.inc.php
