Post by Rainer G »

What's the minimum resolution for your phpWCMS content?

http://www.webhits.de/deutsch/index.shtml?webstats.html says, internet-users use this monitor-resolution:

1024 x 768
59.9%
1280 x 1024
22.5%
800 x 600
6.4%
1152 x 864
5.4%
1600 x 1200
2.1%
andere
3.7%

it depends on who is my target audience. Sometimes I have to focus on women or older ppl, thats when I most likely use 800*600. If you are creating a site for ppl @ work then you will have to check wether they use the computers very often etc.

most of the sites are 1024*768 +

hi brans,

funny: why "womans and older people"?

Older people because of eyes - ok, but why woman?

because I did some "research" at one nailstudio that I did the homepage for. There are only women coming there, a lot of them where using 800*600 or didn't know what resolution they where using.

And there was another research about this, that I have read from... I really don't remember where this was.

(both only valid for a small region in Switzerland)

I always try to create my Sites with a dynamic Size - so it doesn't matter wich resulution the User has. Most of the Visitors on my Pages use 1024x766

my ibook has a resolution of 1024x768, but usually i do not use the full monitor size for my browser. pages that need 1024x768 suck because i have to resize my browserwindow or scroll... i guess, there are more users with such an behavior out there. so in my opinion, it is best to use a smaller resolution or a dynamic solution.

Please read my comments here: http://www.phpwcms.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=18677#18677.
My vote is almost always for 800 x 600.

http://www.sitepoint.com/article/resolution-dilemma (well, already some years old)

My vote too for always 800x600. It just seems to be the most sensible compromise to me.
I would not go for a flexible site if the design matters.
