Volunteers needed - contribute your skills to this community

Post by brans »

Hi ppl,

update: http://www.phpwcms.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5492

as we figured out in another german discussion in this forum there is a big problem that makes the development of phpwcms so slow:

The Community more and more understands the phrase "sharing source code" as "code this and this for me and share it with me!"

I supposed that we should give it a try and collect the most important features /enhancements , that are wanted by the community and program them ourselves (they should be coded by the requesters theirselfs).
One focus we should always keep in this coding process is that we use the most given phpwcms functions possible and try to always make use of the frontend_init and frontend_render folder.

So what I want to say is:

All Volunteers who are willing to contribute anything to this project should now raise their hands and write their contribution and an contact adress (email) here.

What we will need is the following:
- forum + moderator (I will set this up) (for internal project coordination only)
- as many programmers as possible
- some people who are willing to take screenshots and write short but easy to understand documentations for the new functions/mods
- some ppl to translate these documentations into their language
- ideas of what to code
- code snippets: Have you ever coded a useful enhancement, that is now requested by many users ?!? write me an email to:
powerpac at gmx.li and describe briefly what this function can do and how you included it. Please take care of the things I mentioned above: the less core code editing the better, use frontend_init and frontend_render folder!

I really hope that there will be at least as many volunteers here, as do post new requests in the feature request forum.

Hi Brans,

good idea. We need some action somehow.
I would like to help in any way possible.
I'm, unfortunately, not very good in programming PHP, bu perhaps I can help or contribute with something else, like webspace, documentation, translation (English/German/Dutch).

I'm ok with helping, have some (little) spare time.
- as many programmers as possible
Skills php: 5/10
- some people who are willing to take screenshots and write short but easy to understand documentations for the new functions
Skills screenshots: 10/10  Writing: 7/10
- some ppl to translate these documentations into their language
Can do in: spanish, french, english, flemish
- a publishing website for our stuff
Maybe... I'll check, how many MB are we talking about? (will edit this post if I can)
- ideas of what to code
Wouldn't it be nice to take ALL the hacks/enchancements and put them in render/init type? I think it would be a lot of work! (+ testing)
I think someone out there asked for a NICE tutorial how to do it (http://www.phpwcms.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5145), I know there are a couple of posts about it but not completely clear for everybody (for example me  I'm kinda slow you know )
PM me or mail me if it sounds ok to you m|dot|peebles|at|3j|dot|be

This sounds good and reasonable.
I'm no programmer either (ok, I can fumble around with a script and change it here or there a little bit, but nothing from scratch...) , but I would like to participate somehow (perhaps sufficient webspace on a server with mysql, domainname(s), ideas, design, translation english>german - something like that).
We'll see how this topic is going to develope itself...

Greetings
Claus

The great thing to me about phpwcms is that at the moment it is really easy to handle for people who just star out with setting up and using a CMS. Even more inportant: It is also reasonably accessible for a person that has no technical knowledge: e.g. a secretaty. I am just concerned that things will stay that way, will they?

of course. This is what I want to reach with this project:

include every possible hack by only uploading some files and start using
the new functionality, without even touching the core code

I will create a developers corner, where we can plan the enhancements this weekend. So stay tuned and watch this thread for further updates on this topic.

Ok ppl,

I have set up a development board and it should be available somwhen during this night at:

<--censored by pappnase ;)--->

I would really appreciate if everyone who wants to help could apply or simply start contributing in the board :-D

please notice that that board is only thought to coordinate the development process... support and all questions about the mods will be answered here, at the official phpwcms-forum.

If you have any good idea for an add-on (replacement-tag etc.), then post it at our development board.

From tomorrow morning on you can also reach me directly at

brans dev.phpwcms-docu de
