Great software. I have reviewed and tested 6 other content management systems for a medium size site that I am developing. Interestingly, this was the first package that I stumbled upon but I passed because I was scared off by only one developer. Once I actually got around to testing this software I realized that fear was unfounded.
Here are my a few of the things that impressed me out-of-the-box:
* Really clean interface. Oliver is not just a great programmer but a great interface designer.
* The navigation menus are useful from the start--and clean looking which is a feature a lot of CMS don't have.
* It seems like the important things (at least to me) are handled very well. Excellent article management, good WYSIWYG integration, simple .css file to start and more.
* Clean templates that work well out of the box for summarizing articles and other useful simple things.
* Easy to learn and experiment with.
Thanks a lot Oliver and contributers to this forum. To me phpWCMS is the right balance between a good number of features while remaining easy to setup and use.
I have to agree with fnord. Great job, Oliver. Very clean, fast, flexible and efficient coding. I've been developing with one of the *other guys* <ahem Mambo> for over a year but I am getting very tired of fixing cosmetic problems in the baseline code they release and so I've started experimenting with phpWCMS. What I like most about phpWCMS is that I can design my layout and I don't have to worry about extra formatting or hidden padding/margins/tables/columns/whatever being inserted by the baseline code.
I'm looking forward to writing some add-ons for phpWCMS once I become more familiar with the backend, which I'll make available. Please keep up the development.
