top articles option explain please

Can anyone explain to me how the top articles option works in RC3 and RC4. I know it has something to do with the fact that you can put more than one article under an site structure item, but what do the different numbers do?

The number entered defines the number of articles that are shown with title and introduction (followed by "more..."). The rest of the articles are only shown as hyperlinks (clickable title).

Can I see the whole introduction of the articles I put beneath the site structure that are within the number I specify or is it cut off at a certain number of characters?

The whole summary is shown. There is a top count edit field for every structure level since RC3/4
