Hello,
Been noticing that more and more people are writing in german on the forum. It's very difficult for me (and probably many more) that do not speak german to follow a lot of the threads and it is really annoying. What is the preferred language? What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Jens

good Qu.
this is a problem, that based on the "small" community.
we have now 4661 user.
-------------------
for example - at joomla there are in the german cat. 43.521,
and in the english cat. 91.391 members.
-------------------
i think that the language in this forum is mixed at 50/50.
so what should we do - seperate the forum is nonsens,
because there are insufficient members.
we are now talking in two languages.
maybe the german peoples are so friendly,
and translate her questions in english ?
i think, this are principle questions.
i talk to admin.
greetings

Most people write really good English on the forum, so I believe that sometimes it is just laziness that make people write in their own language. English is not my first language either, but I try.
It makes it a lot easier for people outside Germany that want to get their questions answered on the forum if we use a universal language, which English has become.
Just my 2 cents...

Hi
I handle it most the Time like this
on a German Question I give German Answer
when the Theme is more Fundamental sometimes I do it two Languages
and if a Question is in English I try to give the Answer also in English.
But sometimes it is very hard to declare a difficult Problem in the 'not native' Language Enflish for me - and Translators are in this kind mostly also not very helpfull.

Thanks Pico, I hope more people will follow your example.
But there is definitely a tendency that threads turn into German, even when they started out in English. It's very hard to follow a thread when you miss half of the info because it is in a different language.
Well, I believe everybody would benefit from keeping posts in English as the language. Instead of reaching out to 50% of the visitors, you reach out to all visitors if you have an issue to solve. You're doing yourself and everybody else a favor even if it takes a little longer to post the reply or question.
Regards,
Jens

maybe it's also depends from the Situation that more and more Members go away - if I look to the last couple of weeks here in the Forum mostly People from the German Area are posting
hope the new Version give the Community a little more 'Drive' to come back to phpwcms - uh I kill my Project by myself with words like that

hi pico,
you are right - but i think the wcms is basicly perfect.
the biggest probs are in the documentantion.
the docs that i know are made for older versions and are not up to date.
if a new user comes to this place, he find insufficient infos.
ok -when you study a long time this forum, you will know
pappnases docu and peperkorns docu -
but not a the first "to get to know" ...
-----------------------------
i think - there are 3 steps to get luckier:
1 - download - explicit the latetst version
2 - how to install
3 - first steps
and now - a new user need a forum where he can find - struktured - her information ...
-----------------------------
if these probs are disposed, more users will apply PHPWCMS.
thats my position to less members ...

Re: Forum language
Hey JensZ, did you ever mention that sentences like these are like asskicks for people who do not ?JensZ wrote:Hello,

Native languages do a better performance. Standby a decade

Then phpwcms is still alive and we do frenchglishnolmen

Just fun... maybe true a little
Btw my mother tongue is german. But formerly I used to speak english (almost) fluently, so it is a really welcomed possibility getting some of it out of the dust back to light. So I will always try to answer, ask, write in english. We are somehow kind of internationally concerned, aren't we. And learning by doing really isn't restricted to dealing with phpwcms...

Only way to handle this is that moderator take time to make new forum and start clean up forum. Hard work maybe and maybe that’s is the problem? – don’t know but am sure if board can be clean up with German threads on 1 support forum and English threads on another then its good start. People will then post on that language in does forum.Pappnase wrote:how many thimes should we handle this! maybe we should one of the 100 threads about the forum lang set as stiky!
Some one just needs to take time to clean up I think. If no one will do that then give me permission and I will do it on just 1 or 2 hour.
