Call to undefined function mysql_pconnect() in setup.php

I'm trying to install Phpwcms on an Apache server 2.2 running on Windows XP. I have MySQL 5.0 and PHP 5.2.0 installed.

After I try to submit my database info I receive the below error:
Call to undefined function mysql_pconnect() in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache 2.2\htdocs\setup\setup.php on line 53

Can someone please help me figure out why I'm getting this error message?
