What's New or Latest updates article listing

I've spent more than an hour searching but I haven't been able to find out a simple way on how to create a limited list of articles...

What i want to do is:

I have a number of articles under one level
I want to create a new page that displays the latest 3 articles under the heading what's new

Is this possible?
How?
Do I need to code for this?
