Can anybody recommend a wiki?

Post non-phpwcms related topics here - but I don't want to see "hey check this or that other cms". Post if you have a point or worthwhile comment, don't post just to increase you post count!

Can anybody recommend a wiki?

Post by macangelo »

Hi,

I'm looking for a wiki that is easy to use (and to setup), has ACL (Access Control Lists), and is easy adjustable in layout and design. Does anybody have experiences and can recommend something?

Thanks a lot

Why not use mediawiki http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki
Its same script that wiki use and it’s free.

But have to say that wasent easy to design or customize, and there seems to be now "admin panel" to handler settings, user etc. couldn’t se anything about ban/deleting user etc and don’t know why not. But its best script and easy to install. Note that software needs PHP5

Hi Stim,

thank you for your thoughts. I checked MediaWike, finally managed to put in a skin - but it doesn't look like what it is supposed to - I have to look for that admin panel. I didn't see it yet.

Hi macangelo,

try DokuWiki...

In my eyes it is simplier than MediaWiki... ;-)

I have not messed with wiki software, BUT I do have two separate friends that HAVE extensively... and they both swear by PMWIKI.
Just to tryout and compare !

Hi DeXXus,

thank you for your help - in both directions. We finally agreed to stay with mediawiki - and with the basic layout (do you have an idea how that hurts ;-) because that's what most of wiki users know from wikipedia. Makes of course sense.

But another question: Do you know or one of your experts know how I can embed mediawiki into my phpwcms installation? I tried iFrame but as soon as I pull up the page mediawiki shows up in the full (parent) window. I didn't find anything in the code that does it - but, I'm not a coder so that doesn't mean anything.

Thanks a lot

All I can point you to is this reason why it breaks out of iframe:
