login page is blank after 1.3.0 installation

Post by stagai »

Hey All:

I am new as a thread poster, but have been using the forum for a few years now. Thank you Oliver and all else who take part in the development and support of phpWCMS. It is awesome.

Anyhow, the reason for my post.

MySQL 4.1.20
PHP Version 4.3.9

I am able to install 1.2.6 and other previous versions without a problem. I am able to login and use all the functionality (that I need) without a problem. However, when I try to install a fresh copy of 1.3.0, following the same/similar steps as 1.2.6, I end up with a blank login.php page.

I have no idea where to start. I have looked through most of the installation issues for 1.3.0 and came across a thread that described similar problems. However, the issue regarding that thread was the changing of upper and lower case letters during FTP. I use secure shell to upload files to my server, and have checked the cases for a few files and they all seem to be the same.

I have my root website using 1.1-RC4 22-06-2004, and sub-sites (is that a word?) using newer versions of phpwcms and those all seem to work fine. This new installation I am attempting will also be a subdirectory of the root site.

Obviously it's hard to diagnos the problem without any logs. If you can tell me what to post I would gladly do so. If you could help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much.

phpWCMS Community:

I thought I would post this up to help resolve the issue.

root site:
http://nutrition.arizona.edu
/var/www/html/

I am trying to install 1.3.0 into a subdirectory snc thus making:
http://nutrition.arizona.edu/snc
/var/www/html/snc/

The following are the original values that the setup application put into the conf.inc.php file:

$phpwcms['site'] = 'http://nutrition.arizona.edu/';
$phpwcms['DOC_ROOT'] = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'];// real DOC_ROOT seems to be: '/var/www/html//inc'
$phpwcms['root'] = 'snc'; //default: ''

Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read the above posts. I still seem to have problems displaying the login page. I am quite certain that I am installing version 1.3.0 correctly. I took similar steps in installing 1.3.0 as I have in the past with other versions (up to 1.2.6).

I attempted to install 1.2.9, however, I ran into the same problem as 1.3.0 and was not able to see any of the login.php page.

If I can remember correctly, the current site that I am trying to put up was a site that previously used 1.2.7. I attempted to upgrade the site to 1.3.0, but ran into some problems, so I decided to delete the whole site and install a fresh copy of 1.3.0. Could there be some sort of trash collection problem with the server?

Are the path values correct to the previous posting?

And if there is anything more that I can post to perhaps help diagnos the problem, please let me know. Thank you very much.

I have exactly the same problem after installing version 1.3.0. The root page index.php appears totally blank.

Please help.

Thanks.

Your problem sounds like it ~could~ be because you have not created any content? Or have you?

I have the same problem. It appears to be related to a php upgrade. Happened with 1.2.5-DEV and now with 1.3.2. Both index.php and login.php are blank (nothing returned). Could someone help please?

I have (or, had) lots of content so that isn't the problem..

Delete index.html! Seems it was there as place holder on your account. phpwcms does not contain index.html inside root directory.

And normally web server always try to load index.html at first if present.

but check your quote above... "index.html" -> shouldn't this be "index.php"?

Don't know why this happens. Maybe php error results in blank page? As far I know there is no error on login.php or notice or warning... Check your settings again...

I think it's just wget being silly.

Will check my config again, there must be an include or something stopping the display of the page..

It seems to die after this line in index.php
require_once (PHPWCMS_ROOT.'/include/inc_lib/dbcon.inc.php');

which is because of this line in /include/inc_lib/dbcon.inc.php
$db = @mysql_connect($phpwcms["db_host"], $phpwcms["db_user"], $phpwcms["db_pass"]) or ($is_mysql_error = true);

Have figured out the problem - I didn't have php4-mysql installed. phpwcms should probably check if this is installed :)

Oh no? I always try to avoid such checks because it makes system slower and slower. Such module is elementary and described as required.
