How to optimize Phpwcms for a google ranking

Post by Yoenuts »

Hello everyone.

I am really impressed by WCMS and have already build several sites with it.

Recently my Google ranking dropped from nr 1 to nr 3 when entering my company name. I was wandering what general knowledge you guys have on how to optimize your wcms site for google. Or maybe some tips in general?

I didn't know where to post this so I just put it here.

I allways do this:

- General meta tags
- Same title / meta description / first text on the page
- Some bold text or H1 text to emphasize certain words

Perhaps we could build towards a wcms SEO (Search Engine Optimization) checklist?

Cheers!

Hi Yoenuts,

<a href="http://www.azarja.nl/index.php?id=19,0,0,1,0,0"
What do you think how interesting this is for a search engine

Another point is, that loading your page took too much time.
Approximately 6 seconds with DSL. The rest seems to
be ok for me. <strong>-tags and <h1> should be good.
But nobody exactly knows how search engines work
or how long they will work as they do now.

<img src="http://www.azarja.nl/content/images/7b9 ... 875b8b.jpg"

better are relative links like "content/images/7b90361a5d669f7adca5f1039a875b8b.jpg" or

and is "mypicture.jpg" not a better name than "7b90361a5d669f7adca5f1039a875b8b.jpg" or "6f3fd7c4f98aef7c706bbdbcb24ae00b.gif"?

This takes time while loading. Not that much, but it does without
any profit.

"when entering my company name" ???
Is this really a problem? When somebody know your
company name he won´t search in for it in a search engine.
Even as i think that the guys with the trailer hitch do many
funny things.

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. - H. Jackson Brown -

Hi to all

Yes, it is. So if they know your company´s name - your customers
don´t know your internet address. and whats easier to search for
as the company´s name.

I know this in the poor fact, that the german ".de" of my companys
name is not my own: and a lot of customers tell me, that they didn´t
found me on google or other search engines.

In this fact I can understand Yoenuts very well..

Ok, but there´s no "Weichselbaum" or whatever in the keywords.
And i haven´t found it very often in the content.

Please post a link to " that they didn´t
found me on google or other search engines."-page.
If it shouldn´t be the same as your you enter by clicking
the homepage-button.
And this: <h3>welcome @ markus</h3>
would be better to find with
<h1>welcome @ markus<strong>weichselbaum</strong></h1>
or something like this.

You can use an Apache module called mod_rewrite to change PHPWCMS urls to more conventional ones. There's a mini guide in the thread below. This is for people using XAMP on Windows, but the principal is the same for Apache on a Linux server.

http://www.phpwcms.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=66209#66209

Re-write may already be enabled by your host, in which case you can skip the bit in the guide about changing http.conf.

In theory, Google should index the site deeper because it has conventional links to follow. However, I haven't tried this on a live site yet, so I have no idea if it actually makes any difference. :|

Thanks all for the tips you gave me.

My company name is Azarja which some people find hard to spell when I tell them over the phone or something.
I do not have the aspiration or the illusion that I can be nr one in google when people search web design or web development.

I have read the http://www.seochat.com website and found manu usefull tips there. However I wander if that is the authority on SEO? And especially concerning wcms.

I used to have a page before the actual website with only a redirect, totally optimized for Google. But all of a sudden the other guy passed me by in google (.nl) when entering azarja as query.

Thanks for all the tips and philosofing ;-)

You have to find and implement something unique.
Either a slogan or a special keyword or what ever.
