end-user documentation

Post by scraper »

Does anyone have some documentation that they handout to the people that actually are going to maintain the site?

I'm not referring to the documentation on the Docu site, but some documentation that explains how to modify the content (guidelines).

If so, are you willing to share?
Anyway I will start writing  [/list]

I'm doing something but it takes a lot of work indeed. I'm collecting screenshots + flash movies (macromedia captivate).
I'm trying to have it in fr/nl (belgium ;) ) if time allows me also en.
I will publish my things soon @ http://www.memoire-meyer.be (a test site, I was also planning on some templates but I think time is too short to do everything)
Anyway, if u wish we can split the work :P, I can mail or pm u/me if ur interested

Cheers

Kosse,

What I have for the moment is a document that guides people with what to do after they log on. Like:
click on Articles
click on edit
etc.

I also explain what the different icons and so fort mean.

Image

I thought about putting it in chm format so it could be incorporated in phpWCMS.
I have the free Abee CHM maker to create the CHM.

Other suggestions are welcome. :)
I will post the chm or doc file or html files when I have something concrete (or the link to download it).

For the moment this document is in Dutch but I will translate it to English to be of some use for the community (sorry for the other languages but my vocabulary isn't that big concerning German and French at least for this purpose).

Seems nice,

didn't know the CHM method, ok for me, I can take some parts if u want to (just downloaded chm maker)
What I've done so far is looking at the official (last made 1.4RC) phpwcms docu and looking at Pappnase's docu-site, adding screenshots. Plain word doc actually, was even thinking of making a Quark version for nice layout and printing, we'll see.

You can see what it looks (flash files) like with Contribute here: (an example on how to use the link content part, in french)
http://www.memoire-meyer.be/manual/ (F11 full screen nicer view, it's just a test btw)

Let me know if we can collaborate somehow (ik kan het in nl doen en ook in het frans en engels, zelfs spaans, spijtig genoeg geen de)

Cheers

I really like the Flash, but not that handy when you just are stuck at a certain point and need help on that specific topic. That's why I'm looking into chm so if you press F1 or click a ? button it opens the help file and jumps to that displays all search results for the item you need help with.
Hope that this all will work someday.

I will keep you posted
I hope you're not expecting it tomorrow as I'm also writing a mod for a Flash gallery (gallery is working within phpWCMS but still needs to be configured outside phpWCMS) :(

@Frold, you can download a trial of Captivate here http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/
of course you can look for a cr*** :P

Yes! That's why I'm doing both...
Scraper, don't you want to split the work? I can do some to complete it (and translate to fr nl parts)

Kosse,

I have about a week to complete the specific guidelines for a site I've build with phpWCMS.

The problem with the guidelines is that they include screenshots of the actual website which may confuse people when these are used in the general help/guidelines.

What I suggest is that I continue my guidelines for the one website and afterwards we can reuse the stuff to create the general help file. What do you think?

If you want, we can start emailing (I'm not always on msn and that's why I left it out of my profile)

How do you want to split up the work?

I will check if Fulvio is busy with the same thing. The gallery I'm working with is freeware and is called SimpleViewer. It won't be that hard to write the mod for it. I hope
I someone is already busy with it, let me know I hate being second :x :P :P
