Is this possible using PHPWCMS?
Is this possible using PHPWCMS?
Working on a new website I had to learn that the CMS I was using on a different project is not complex enough to suit my needs. So far I was using SPIP (and some Coppermine) but now I need mode features. A friend of mine pointed me to the phpwcms website today and I am wondering if it can do the following:
- Image/Gallery: having a thumbnail overview (combined with some text) with one enlarged picture - meaning when you click on one of the thumbnails the enlarged picture will change to the desired image (JavaScript) [example: http://fordmodelseurope.com/FRAME_brows ... model=5005]
- Offer the ability for the user to upload images and enter some data (like a formmailer BUT direktly to the database instead of emailing)
- Implementation of a webshop (limited amount of items): Which system should I use here?
Thank you very much in advance!

welcome to the phpwcms forum PITz,
You can create an image gallery though this is all done manally http://www.jayenne.com/index.php?jpcharacterdesign
there is not yet a database driven gallery for phpwcms.
You can not have random internet users uploading to your database either (yet) You can give backend user rights to people but this will also give then a lot of power over your site too (not quite admin but close)
And again, there is no e-Shop either.
BUT, on the good side...
you can integrate coppermine of any other gallery within phpwcms and the same goes for e-commerce forums etc.
The reason for using phpwcms is that it is an extreemly easy to use and yet flexible CMS. The problem/benefit with the gallery and e-shop scripts i have seen is that they only do one thing, they will not create a site for you only a gellery or an e-shop.
so let phpwcms will create the site and coppermine to create the gallery.
a little php knowledge and a willingness to try will yeald fast and impressive results in helping you achieve all that you require.

Re: Is this possible using PHPWCMS?
I think you should make a test installation of phpwcms and play around with it - you will love it.pITz wrote:Working on a new website I had to learn that the CMS I was using on a different project is not complex enough to suit my needs. Thank you for your quick responses!
do you guys have any experience with typo3 or other CMS? Anyone could recommend a CMS which supports the features I mentioned out of the box? The ability to upload pictures to the datebase (they dont have to be published yet, just somewhere in the db - the admin gets to take it from there) is crucial to me. Also commermine has lots of functions but not the ones I am looking for...

nope... Typo 3 I don´t know much... It was to hard to use (Or I was to stupid?), so I skipped it very fast
and then I found this

I give a big fat negative to Typo3. I would only use Typo3 under the condition I was going to be making a $50,000 website that was going to be needing TONS of extra functionality. The learning curve and transportablity to a new web designer is too great a cost for most projects.

Hmm pitz you can also include 4images gallery into your phpwcms or anything you want to. Simply search the forum because I know that there was somebody who included 4images AND and OSCOMMERCE Shop into his phpwcms easily...
or maybe you could give us an example of what script would meet your needs and we could tell you if it was possible (hard/easy) to include it or not...
