{NAV_TABLE_COLUMN}, making it different?

I am currently using this menu on another site
{NAV_TABLE_COLUMN}

however i want it to keep the style it has, since i think it looks nice, but i also want it to show the index link, how?

also, how do i make it not show the sublinks when another link is pressed? its because the page im using it on, one of the menu items has a huge list of subitems, and as much as i want, i cant use the horisontal menu, since the menu he has will be too wide.

i done it that way that i create a top level in the structure calles home an make a rederiction zu the index.php!
