Creating different User Groups

Post by StudioZ »

Installed PHPWCMS and presently evaluating it.
I find this CMS very well done.
It has a clean GUI. This is really awesome

Now... I am wondering if PHPWCMS would allow me to create different types of User Groups...? I searched the forums but... can't find this info.

Creating different User Groups, would allow me to assign different pages viewing permissions to different customers and partners.

Also: Is there a site where you can download different modules for PHPWCMS? I would be looking for modules like:
- Calendar
- Poll/Survey
- etc.

Kind Regards,

Kind Regards,
Not possible.. you can be a normal user or admin - that´s its at the moment...

I do not see phpWCMS as a portal type- it's a webcontent cms, so I don´t think there is a need for user groups... But only Oliver can ask that.....
anyway I don´t think it is the first thing done....

I agree with you that phpWCMS should not become a portal type. But I would also like to have different user groups. Or at least to allow a single user just to create articles in a specific part of the site structure.

But AFAIK that isn't possible at the moment. Right?

Not really - but you can give a article a new "article owner" that could be a "normal user" and then he can edit a article....

Update: If you do as I just said the user can also add new articles to that level I see.... maybe it is a bug?

No - it's no bug.

It's not level restricted - why should?

My experience is: 99% does not need groups and/or deep user permissions.

But you know - this is planned and some parts are prepared and also implemented - but not functional at the moment.

And:
there will be a difference between frontend users and backend users. Frontend user support will be integrated at first.

Just wanted to mention my interest in the future development of simple user groups. Nothing fancy, I just have several authors that would like to collaborate in the creation of articles, instead of each one writing his own.

I could make them all administrators, but that would be giving them a bit too much power.

Another similar idea perhaps would be to allow the writer of an article to choose "All users" in the 'article owner' field. Thoughts on this?

Sorry - better no help at the moment.

If you can - please wait - and/or write documentation, create templates or something like that.

It's OK Oliver. Just one last question about contentpart templates. Have you already an idea of hwo to implement that feature? Perhaps we can help then by creating templates for the current available contentparts while you implement the parsing and renderung of the contentparts.

Sorry - but that's no help :D. Such template stuff isn't difficult. The templates will be done exactly the same way as hardcoded now. And will be used also like the article list/summary stuff.
