It means you haven't filled in required details for sending email via SMTP method. Open your /include/inc_conf/conf.inc.php and look at the bottom of the file.

Eg try to turn smtp off

conf.inc.php
$phpwcms["site_ssl_mode"] = "0"; // tuns the SSL Support of WCMS on(1) or off (0) DEFAULT '0'
then you can use the phpmail function instead - I think....

what are the differences, pro's con's between STMP & PHPmail?
what are the system requirements for each?

currently on my home serve I use a free smtp app so that I can have phpwcms mail functionality. could i do with out this app if i were using phpmail?

on Windows you have no chance to use mail() if you do not have installed a smtp relay.
