I'm building my first site with WCMS and I'm impressed by the possibilities.
This is a proposal for a small enhancenment in the admin section: when creating a template of a page layout you find at the bottom 2 buttons: save pagelayout and close. When you want to create another pagelayout of template based on an already created template/page layout you have to copy/paste every field. A save as buttom (as in most wordprocessers for documents) would save a lot of work and mistakes.

Save as button
i had the same idea just a few moments ago when i tried to change a template and didn't want to loose the original one!
also for layouts, articles and categories this would be very usefull!

when creating a test template I d othe following...
open two browser loged in to the backend then cut & paste from one to the other and save the cloned template with a version number. I then swap the names of the templates around (prefixing version numbers when not in use)
eg.
article01 uses default_template
I have FOUR differeing versions.. default_template + 01, 02 & 03
the one i wish to view with aritlce01 I simply change the name of default_template to default_template04 and one of the others to default_template. c'est voila.

'save as' or 'import/export' functions would be much easier way to do this, right? :)
I guess some time down the road the idea of exporting/sharing templates/layouts would open the way for easier first steps in phpWCMS for newbies or allow developers to offer commercial templates, which would attract more professionals to the community.

I added this feature request to the SF feature request tracker. This is no guarantee that this feature will be implemented, but a request that will be thought of and discussed about.
