How to pull data

I am in desperate need of a code.
I had a friend who did it, and he told me what I need
to have a sql created and make a php code that will pull data from certain files within my phpwcms.
My pages are set up like this
Games
-New Releases
-Reviews
-First Person Shooter
-Review article
-Review article
-Review article
-Fighting
-Reviw article
-Review article
-Review article
and so on witht ehdifferent genres. So basically I want the code to pull the latest file from each of the genre directory and put it into a new page called(latest reviews) that way people can go there and see there latest review for each genre of games. Make sense? Any help would be highly appreciated.
