Uploading an image file shrinks it to 5% of original size

Uploading an image file shrinks it to 5% of original size

I am having trouble uploading image files to my phpwcms. I upload successfully, but then discover the image has shrunk from 19.5 KB down to less than 1 KB.

When I open image browser and attach it to an article, it is TINY! Same also happens when I try to assign a link to my page layout.

Please help.
