very simple questions

I apologise for this simple questions of newbe in WCMS. I've read documentation, but section about replacement of Tags is very short and not explanatory at all.
1. how can I make navigation for my site? i.e. menus with links to sinle articles or to categories of articles?
2. how can I build categories of contents? i.e.: "sports", "portfolio" etc.
3. how can I use templates/layout for my site? How can I obtain "serach" forms etc.?
4. haw can I manage number and category of articles showed on start page of WCMS?
