Where to start? 1.1-RC4 or 1.2.5 Dev

I have 1.1-RC4 available via a Fantastico install. But the web site says to use the 1.2.5 Dev release. I am confused about which install to start with. Do I run the Fantastico install and then upgrade to 1.2.5 Dev? Or do I start by installing 1.2.5 Dev from scratch?
And if I start with 1.1-RC4 do I need to run multiple upgrades to get to 1.2.5? Or will the 1.2.5 upgrade cover all the updates?
This is my first attempt at installing and using phpwcms and I am a frontend person not a programmer. Also I need this site up and running ASAP. I am hoping it will be a fit for a new client.
