Ist php 5 zu empfehlen, wie verträgt es sich mit phpwcms?

Habe momentan Version php 4.3.5 auf dem Server. Ich denk mal es wird Zeit für ein update. Alleine schon wegen der Sicherheitslöcher. Hat jemand Erfahrung mit PHP Updates unter Redhat. Ich habe gehört da muss
man von Hand compelieren.
