I am trying to get this type of lay out and have it still work with printer friendly.
Here is an example:

place in left ure mainpart. in the maincontent ure left menu and so on

nothing stop you to do this

When I do a print friendly the main does not show up?

i dont know but u can test it. the content parts are not named in the layout section. i think print would work.
