create hyperlink to a document

hi,
i think it would be a really useful feature to be able to create hyperlinks to documents in the file center. at the moment, you have to create a file-list content part, preview it, copy the shortcut from the browser, (download.php?1289132), go back to the page, edit it, select text, create hyperlink, paste shortcut! ten not-so-easy steps for non-technical people
maybe a new button could be added below the editor (not sure how complicated it is to integrate into the toolbars of all the html editor components) that would allow the user to pick a file from the file center, and then call a simple document.CreateHyperlink(url) on the editor.
i know there is already a popup window for selecting files from the file center, maybe this could be re-used for the purposes i have outlined above? the hard part is only to get the url to download the file, i'd be pretty sure that creating the link is easy.
any thoughts?
thanks
tim mackey.
