Hi,

I am puzzled by these terms.
Could anybody care to explain?

If i am going to create a company intranet site, which one is a more ideal one?
BTW, I hope to integrate a forum into it, and maybe in future other customize mods or things like that.

Thanks

Hi, don’t get puzzled about terms...

phpWCMS is much easier to handle than most of the HTML design software tools on the market.

I have a small web background, I did some web sites by pure HTML code and previously used some of the common HTML tools (NetObjects Fusion, Adobe GoLive…), but I always was fed up by the amount of work if changes are needed on a web site.

A content management system, such as phpWCMS could cover a lot of issues, when you need to create a company web site, and it finally does not matter if you go 'online', in terms of a web site, or you just use the company server to run it as an intranet solution.

The sticking point about which tool to use is what kind of features you need. Make a list of what is necessary, and put the nice to have stuff aside. Then check this forum and the phpWCMS feature list. Ask clear questions to this forum, and you’ll get an answer.

If phpWCMS meets your requirements (read the documentation too), just climb onto the bandwagon and give yourself a chance. If you are a bit experienced with HTML and CSS, you could create a working sample in hours! And the most fun is, when you’re tuning your design, you do it in one place, and – dadooo – the whole site has changed, to the better or the worse. Depends on you!

Hope this helps for the moment.

An excellent open-source groupware app is http://moregroupware.sourceforge.net. Another good one is http://www.group-office.com.

Groupware usually contains the following features: webmail, calendar, contact list, forum, news, file repository, etc. A portal is a site like yahoo or msn - a great all-in-one system for the public. Sounds like your company could benefit from groupware and / or a website with some front-end login capabilities so that you can have some password-protected content that is only intended for employees to see. You could build one page that would have some files listed (such as sales presentations), some news and the next few events.
