yes, I am a newb. And I am confuseled. My index.php is blank. And I am confused how to create a layout, and what is this template thing. I understand making block sized in the page layout thing, but nothing is showing up on index.php. I am really and truly confused. I just need to make a layout to fit my design and then make articles. Not really a community thing. Just need easy updating and editing. I am sure you guyz have heard my problem b4 so could someone redirect me. I think I am using rc2.

your index.php will ALWAYS be blank unless you fill it with content (not directly: the file itself is code not content)
once you have decided on your layout as it seams you have, you must then go and create your template. There are a few templates on this site that you could use (use 'search' or look at the support sticky)
a template is basically HTML code that you put in each of the areas provided.
you may use any or all of the 'replacement tags' in order to make you life a little easier and your site more dynamic.
hope this helps you to help your self

OK, whats the purpose of the PAGELAYOUT thing, whats the purpose of the template thing. That is one place where I am confused. What does that have to do with the templates that one can download from the mainsite? How does this allow me to adapt my layout to the way WCMS works. You see, I am pretty confused.

what about installing the sql file with a start template and layout - then you can play around with it
Look in the folder:
\setup\sample_template_db
And use this file: phpwcms_init

Go to
setup/sample_data_db/ and read README file first
after
you have to
move phpwcms_init from
setup/sample_data_db to
/setup and replace file with same name
after this go to
http://www.yourdomain.com/setup/index.php and make a normal installation!
Warning this will erase all your previous content with new sample content.
P.s please, correct me if i am wrong

uuuy sorry, I installed it with Fantastico in CPANEL, so I dont see an install folder. Basically I want to understand why I have to do a pagelayout setup if I can specify all that in the template? Does that not make sense? Can I just make an HTML document and put the replacement tags where I want? Could someone direct me to a sample template, the core thing that runs the layout/design. I tried a search on the boards, didnt really find anything.
