hello frold
did we really need this!? is it quite enough to have it in the backend that you will see wich articles are most popular!?
did you ever went to an newspaper website and see wich are the most reading news!?
sorry don't missunderstand me, it's only my opinion.

many news sources decide how long a story should be on 1st page by how much people read it.
I think "most read" woud be great. but the thing to consider is that maybe it should be "most read in 30 days/2 months/etc".
Point is that if the 1st article you ever wrote is not very popular (lets say read twice a day) then after a year you add an article that is read 10 times a day then the 2nd article is clearly more popular but it would take almost 3 months to get to the top of the most read list.
i hope i expressed myself clearly. not naitive english.
on the other hand maybe a "least read" list is an idea. if the site has a lot of content then some corner of it might be overlooked by visitors and showing them "other articles" is a way to promote least read articles.
one site i created shows 5 "other articles" of those 3 are top3 and 2 are random articles from bottom 10%. the result was pretty nice pages per visitor growth.
