Upgrading from 1.3.3 to latest release best pratices

Hi phpwcms fans,
Has anyone been thru the process of upgrading from 1.3.3 to the lastest build? I can't seem to find any documentation online.
Can I upgrade from 1.3.3 to the latest or do I need to apply upgrades version step by step?
Also, how is this actually done, do I replace all of the current file system (1.3.3) with the with the latest filesystem and run the /setup/ directory?
Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you.
