NEwbie:What can i do with PHP WCMS

Post by kingomonkey »

HI

The concept of CMS is fairly new to me, and im not really sure what i can do with it.

I do however have some requirements, but these requirements are based on a very limited knowledge, so if im barking up the wrong tree then please feel fee to point it out.

Perhaps the best way for me to ask if my requirements can be met is if i ask some questions:

1. I want to build my site in dreamweaver along with photoshop. can i use PHPWCMS to only add content to certain sections of pages.

2. If i create a product database for an online store, could i in theory use PHPWCMS to add additional items to the stores database

2.A I think what i am asking here is if PHPWCMS can be used as a front end for updating the product database. If not, and this function would come under a whole different catagory of tools, please advise.

3. If i build a site for another user, do they have to be aware that they using PHPWCMS, in the process of adding content to the site and/or the database.

As i said at the beginning i am completely new to this, so please feel free to point out any links to useful pages that will help me get my head around these problems in general.

Perhaps if i put it like this.

I would like to build an online store mostly in dreamweaver.
I would like the owner of the site to be able to update their site on their own without the need for dreamweaver, but still maintaining the layout i devise in dreamweaver.
There will be no need for additional pages
Being a store i would like the user to be able to edit the stores product database from within PHPWCMS. If not are there any tools which will allow this , or any alternative approaches i might take?

Please help even if you can only answer one of the above questions

hi,

for the store-feature i guess you have to incorporate a shop-solution like x-cart or so... it will have its own backend i suppose. Take a look in 'sites under construction' and/or 'sites you are proud of' there was a guy who did exact that, a few days ago.....

you can build your site withe photoshop and dreamweaver easy.. you just paste the HTML-code to the apropriate phpwcms-blocks... sometimes a few modifications will be needed.

I did my sites this way!
