I see it clearly now: some parts of this forum (e.g. the hacks forum) has attachments switched to "on" while others like "general discussion" have not... right?

only in the 'hacks section' attachments have been always allowed. i think only moderators can do that anywhere.

This button shows mismatching, new color profiles. They are rather unknown until today. What is going on in background?

This post is quite old, but is the attachment feature disabled since the last forum update?
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26232
My last uploaded attachment is from april 2021, but now I don't see this option any more when I open a topic or reply to posts?
In general it seams to be possible:

It works as always. And also your attachment from April is there.

Yes the old attachment is still there:
but I don't have the option to add attachments at blog posts:
There should be a second tab "Upload attachment" next to "Options" as described in the phpBB User Guide:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... g_options/
The screenshots at this post are just added via the insert image option
where the images are hosted external and gone if I delete my dev system.

Cannot say where this is for you. All permissions given. Maybe with next update…

I checked with Opera and Chrome browser. Same like with Firefox.
Will see, maybe next update changes something.
Thanks.

For testing I created a new forum user, but this user also has no attachment permissions given.
So I searched at the
phpBB Support Forum and found this topic.
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... #p15781151
Instead of looking at the permission settings you would be better off looking at the permission masks for those members having problems.
Maybe some default settings are changed or gone during the last updates.

You should not remove anyone from the Registered Users Group - that group should contain all members. Other groups add/subtract permissions from that group.
Oliver, maybe the "permission masks" setting gives some help?
