Upgrade- what version do I have and best method?

Hey folks,

I oversee an install of PHPWCMS though don't manage it. It is dated copyright 2003 - 2005 so it looks way old. Where do I find the version number?

I don't see any info on upgrading and the best way to do it without destroying the database, is it anywhere?

Just start with the first steps in database ! So there will be some "Errors" like : Hey, I have this field change done already ... no Problem, BUT make an update of files and database before beginning. Also: check if the backup took all pictures with it.
