Expanded form of SHOW_CONTENT tag to support categories?

In my humble opinion it would be very useful for us site builders to be able to include a whole category in a page using an expanded form of the SHOW_CONTENT tag - something like: {SHOW_CONTENT:CAT:category_alias}
This would allow to create smart page constructs (using specially built categories, with their own layouts/templates) in a much more robust and well-functioning way than using the URL tag. I strongly believe that the URL tag should only be used for including "external" web pages, and not phpwcms site pages. (Unless there is already another way of including categories than URL, which I am unaware of, in which case I hope someone can enlighten me.)
Additionally, in practice, during the almost 2 years I am using the URL tag, I have seen some cases of strange behavior, especially immediately after including it in a template: the template behave as if the tag is not there, or even the system hungs for some time (in 1.1RC4).
