speed (or lack thereof)

I've been testing phpWCMS for maybe two days and I've found one major problem with it.
Isn't this beautiful script rather slow? That seems pretty strange as it seems so "close to the hardware" (meaning using lots of simple HTML written by the user).
And I'm afraid I don't mean slow compared to simple HTML-based sites, but even all those phpNukes seem to run many times faster. (On the other had I'm a simple HTML + JS guy, so I perhaps can't tell?)
Seriously and no offence! - I like phpWCMS very much, but I don't know whether this sluggishnes:
1. has something to do with my system (what could it be that specifically slows down phpWCMS and not all the other similar system?)?
2. is something that will get soon fixed?
3. is a thing one would have to live with forever?

I personally think WCMS is blazing fast ....
I have two production servers (both Linux systems) and a local Windows XP develop server.
It isn't slow at all ...IMHO.
Johan.

OK, your words are giving me some hope. Thanks! For I really like this system.
(Now I only must find the cause of the problem with my installation...)

i am running a webserver with the following specs:
Apache/1.3.28 (Linux/SuSE) mod_ssl/2.8.15 OpenSSL/0.9.7b mod_python/2.7.8 Python/2.3+ PHP/4.3.3 mod_perl/1.28/ mySQL 3.23.49
pentium cpu 2,6ghz, 1024mb ram, raid0 running in 100mbits network with 12gbit backbone
never ever had performance problems... also running nuke, but there's no performance loss in rendering from phpwcms to nuke... or i am mentally to disturbed by watching animal **** stuff.
(just a little joke)

Thanx, I will compare with mine.

I really don't know what it can be and even conceptually it seems strange, as I already explained.
or i am mentally to disturbed by watching animal **** stuff.
I like it too.
(just a little joke)
(So what it can be? Or am I TOTALLY brain-dead from watching AnalDestruction.com?

Well, you made me do it... See for yourselves - just to prove to you
1. how slow it is
2. that I REALLY love ****
I give you the link to my little (stupid as hell!) phpWCMS experiment I concocted. Have you ever seen anything slower (this side of snails on barbiturates)? Here it is:
http://u4332375.webd.pl/phpWCMS
You may wanto to compare it with e.g.
http://u4332375.webd.pl/Drupal/
(This experiment is in Polish so you will sadly miss the greater part of its stupidity.

The ads seemed to be the only thing slowing things down to me. I have never noticed any speed issues personally.

OK, if you say so then it must be something in my own configuration.
In fact I have serious problems reaching that server from the other end of the globe. I only seemed strange that all the other similar system run so much quicker for me.
But after all my concern was what the potential users will see and if it's OK then I can start playing with it some more. Thanks!

OK, nice to hear.
But have you tried to use the menu and change the pages? The ads I can remove, no problem.

Well, you have been TOTALLY RIGHT! I've removed those stupid banners and now phpWCMS runs like... whatever. (I still can't understand how those two Polish banners could slow the WHOLE site so much, but it's not the main issue here, is it?)
Sorry for having been nagging you all with this presumed "slowness"! And thank you.
triarius
P.S. Now, I have lesser phpWCMS problems... Like: "Why there's no Home in the menu created with this longer statement? It is present in the breadcrumbs and that's as it should be. So?"
