hmm maybe we should create an wcms addon all together..

we could take any forum script (backend) and create a new frontend, which can be included in wcms... ?!? I guess it wouldn't be too hard to realise..

This is in the changelog:
- introducing some kind of "modules" - external scripts for frontend init and frontend rendering. init is used before content will be rendered (use functions, definitions here) and use replacement tags in frontend rendering section. use of this new function is set by 2 values in conf.inc.php. place your scripts in "phpwcms_template/inc_script/frontend_init" or "phpwcms_template/inc_script/frontend_render"
That's all, don't know how to interface even a simple script with this setup. So a full functional forum system is out of the question....

Or am I missing something? Is there any kind of documentation or at least a functional example?

if something is working you are skilled,
if it is not, it is a fault in the system.

I saw the earlier post from Carlos Rocha with the link to the PunBB forum 'embedded' in an iFrame. I think this is a nice solution. It looks neat and keeps forum admin separate from PHPWCMS admin, which seems (to me) to be more of an advantage than not.

PunBB users are running some big boards too, which is a pretty good indication of stability and security.

I'm gonna try it. :D

Yes, I can say the same as Carlos Rocha:

After a long time and much work with Boards such as phpBB, Invisionboard, vBulletin I leave these big, overloaded boards and changed to punBB.

You should have a look at this clean, fast and full of feature board...

In the new dev release the first steps toward a forum content part is taken, so I think this is dead....

But you can always do it the iframe way, search on iframe AND forum...
