Thanks, jsw_nz. I'd be interested to hear if an upgrade based on the instructions works out for you.
I decided to try the same email form code on several other installations...and found the same error cropping up, namely email verification was not working. Was scratching my head.....and PM'd Pappnase....copy an pasted his email form code...and got it to work....
The key difference was the SEND COPY parameter. From every test that I have run....adding:

but now it works
