Hallo,
Hey,
which version we are talking about? I use RC4 and their are no e-mails to activate the newsletter. If I activate the user in the message area, I can send newsletters and every thing works fine.
Which cache do I have to deactivate?
Thanks in advance

Danke für Deine schnelle Antwort. Funktionieren die Newsletter den schon in RC4, oder muß ich auf 1.2.x updaten?
Gruß
Thanks for your response. Are the newsletter working in RC4 or do I have to install/update the version 1.2.x?
Regards

Sorry for not translating this post. I'm too tired in the moment. Next time for sure.

Hi folks,
I have the same problem as Janik.
I use Release 1.1-RC4 27-08-2004, patch P1 -> P6.
After successfully running the mail form with an external SMTP server, I thougt the newsletter will work fine, but nada!
I used the provided samples exactly as shown, but the subscriber mail address will get no registration mail at all, although the registrar is in the list of newsletter subscribers, but not activated / verified.
If I activate /verify the subscriber manually and check the newsletter function, it works fine.
What's wrong?
Any solution / workaround?

Hi Oliver,
there are two subjects concerning mail and newsletter:
a) the mail feature (act_fommailer.pdp) uses an odd way to send a copy of the mail to the sender. Usually a CC will do this, but this procedure set up a second mail with reversed mail addresses, which results to errors, when the external SMTP server does not allow to be used as a mail relay. As a result the error is displayed: “(1) Language string failed to load: recipients_failed
xxxx@yyyy.tld” followed by “(2)…” with the same message.
b) The newsletter does not use the conf.inc.php settings for smtp values, instead it uses plain mail functions. As a result, an external SMTP server blocks the registration mail.
OK.
a) is easy to change,
but how about b)?

seems to be a "never ask too much" forum...
I managed the whole mail issues (eMail, eCards and NewsLetter) to run using an exsternal SMTP server, if configured!
hackito... ergo sum...

maybe a stupid question, but where do you disable the cache?
I also receive the error:
Language string failed to load: instantiate
when sending the newsletter

In the backend of your site > goto 'admin' > edit the desired category > at the bottom of the page there is a few check boxes > one of them disables the cache.
have fun.

Thanks for the reply pSouper, but I didn't send the newsletter from the frontend (how do you do that anyway).
I used the message->newsletter and than created a new letter and send a test email.
Does anyone know how to list all the sent newsletters in an article on the frontend? Would be nice once I get the email to work.
