Multi IE installation

Post by update »

Hi,
I have a multi IE installation (7, 6, 5.5) and have to notice some strange behavior: websites checking seems to be rendered near to useless, because the way how the different IEs are starting up is changing unpredictably. They seem to be influencing each other.
Can anybody confirm such strange behavior?

Greetings
claus

Hi

yes and no - hold in Mind, that always IE7 (if this is your Windows-Browser) is reported to the Serversied, so CSS- and Browser-Switches don't work.

only way I found - I use VM with different Installations of WIN and Browsers

Thank you!
VM with different Installations of WIN and Browsers
Thought about that too some time ago, but haven't been sure about. I will give it a try (probably I will need some more kilogRAM - otherwise I could reanimate some P133 or P400)

Just had a look at vmware's website - seems to be overwhelming, the last time I've used it is now nearly 7 years ago
What kind of product will be good for me to start off with? Do you have a recommendation?
Thank you in advance!

Maybe Virtual PC 2007 is the way to go?

Many thanks to you both! These are the adventure tales of Claus:

First I gave a chance to vmware - ending up with a no go in installing anything (this has been really smooth formerly)
Second chance went to mircosfot and this was annoying - it not only killed my internet connection, but also shot down my beloved FireFox :?

Now all and everything is like it has been before - wiped it off and out, sitting here wondering if I'm getting old slowly

I think some of the older hardware will come into light again to serve my needs - testing purposes only

Mmh - perhaps I forgot to eat that pills or? Can't remember...

Claus,

Just give the virtualpc another go. I found it easier to install than vmware. Just download an image (I use the ie6) and the virtualpc 2007.
Install is done within 10 minutes and most time will go in decrompessing the vhd image.

Succes,

Axel

Hi

what I have done, created VM-Image(s) with VM-Workstation(Trial-Version) and use it then with VM-Player.

What did you wrong, that it kills your 'normal' Installation ?
It's like any other Program and it touches not the running OS - not more than any other Application!? OK - maybe it wont run, but thats all - and Yes it needs some Memory and Performance to work ;) I always have as much Memory in my Machines as possible (WIN XP - 2GB) cause I need it for Grapical work :D

The only Problem I had - as far as I can Remember - was to get the Network to work, was a little Tricky with the virtuell 'Network-Adapters' and the routing.

Ok, Axel and Horst,
since I'm rather tending not to give up normally, I'll give both apps (and myself  ) a second chance and will continue the story
Thanks for pushing me
