404 Error Question

Post by stagai »

Hello again:

I am currently in the process of migrating a site over to a Godaddy host server. So far, things are good. However, I ran into a 404 problem.

The index page of the site works. However, whether or not URL rewrite is active, I cannot view any other page. They all come back as a 404 error.

I am able to login to the backend.
I am able to create, modify, delete templates, layouts, and articles
I am able to do everything in the backend (i think).

BUT, I am not able to preview any of the pages from both front and backend. Has anyone had this problem before?

I currently do not have a .htaccess file uploaded as it seems to cause problems, so I even have rewrite off. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Of Course!!! My apologies

http://www.cpanarizona.org/index2.php

I am using the real index page http://www.cpanarizona.org as a placeholder to tell people to go to the old host for now.

Sorry about that.

following that 'old' link:
http://nutrition.arizona.edu/cpan/index ... ,0,0,1,0,0

your cms works fine.

seems to be a mistake with your 'new' server setup

did you install your cms into the directory
/cpan on http://www.cpanarizona.org
or at top level??

Hmm... ONLY a couple links are working, as it is currently set up:

http://www.cpanarizona.org/GPL.html
http://www.cpanarizona.org/GPL.txt
http://www.cpanarizona.org/feeds.php?feed=all
http://www.cpanarizona.org/index2.php?index

And it ~looks~ like Rewrite -IS- turned on, because the About CPAN page:

http://www.cpanarizona.org/index2.php?id=1,0,0,1,0,0

has a link at the bottom like this:

http://cpanarizona.org/91.0.0.1.0.0.phtml

And while MOST of the images are found, this one is not:

DeXXus:

Interesting. The above links show a 404 error within the content section of the pages showing all of the layout and template.

When I open up a fresh browser window, I get the standard 404 error message.

I turned off "rewrite" in the conf.inc.php file and blanked out the alias field for the "About CPAN" and "Research & Education."

I also changed the frontpage to the real one.

Thank you all for your help.

Hmmm. Okay.

This is weird. Now I am getting what DeXXus was getting. 404 errors within the content section of the pages.

Is there a built in 404 error for "site structure" sections without articles? (Yes there is.....)

Okay. So there is some lag time between changes made and changes being shown. Anyhow, it seems that I have the .htaccess wrong. I turned off the rewrite as the above post mentions, blanked out the alias names on a few of the structured sections, and got rid of the .htaccess file and via la, it works. I will play around with the .htaccess file. Any advice? (I'll search the forum.)

Thanks for all of your help.

Godaddy is one of the worst hosting partners you can choose!!!

I use them for domain registration only - all other services are just marketing TamTam.
