Internal Video Source: File Browser Problem

Post by alexander »

Hello everyone,

I am trying to use the multimedia content type to embed an mpg video. But when I try to choose it via the "internal source" file browser it doesn't show the movie file. I have tried to change the file extension from mpg to mpeg, but the file manager always adds the original .mpg, thus the file is called xxxxx.mpeg.mpg

If I link to that same file via the external url it works just fine so the problem can't really be the file itself...

Does anyone have a clue how I can work around this - maybe change the code in the way that the file browser lets me choose any file?!

Thanks in advance
Alexander

have you checked if you webserver allows this type of file?
did you set up the folder and the file to 'public' and 'activ' - did you test to upload other filetypes and put them into articles?

No, but I guess it does since the video is playing when I link to it directly.

Yes, I just double checked. It was and is set to "public" and "active".
did you test to upload other filetypes and put them into articles?
Yes, have done so with JPEGs, PDFs, Word files and never had any problems (besides the ones with creating thumbnails from large JPEGs)...

Thanks for your thoughts though... do you have any other ideas? You can look at the current workspace at:

http://www.lma-deutschland.de/phpwcms/i ... 49,0,0,1,0

There the video is embedded using "external source"... but as you can see the video is playing.

No, I didn't get any error messages. I uploaded the file via FTP Takeover. Everything worked fine.

Thanks for your testing effort,
Alexander

could you send the mpg file to wcmsrocker? - so i could test it with the original file, or perhaps you can say me how big the file is.

You can download the file from it's current location:

http://www.lma-deutschland.de/phpwcms/d ... 6732,205,1

It's size is 5.3 MB. Does this help?

have you other files with this size?, otherwise i know where the bug is...

then your server isn't able to handle files with this size.

Well, might be... but what exactly do you mean by "isn't able to handle"?

It uploaded well, it shows up in the "file" section of the backend and I can include the file in a "file list" content.

It just doesn't show up in the file browser of the "multimedia" content.

@Jan212: Thanks, I am curious if you find a solution...

@nekket: interesting. I am currently looking for the line of code where it decides whether to show a file or not...

@pSouper: Sorry about that. Should have put a warning next to the link: The video is yukky - I never got past the first seconds. But what do you do - it's the customer's wish.

Greetings to all,
Alexander

hehe, on a slight side note : i wouldn't put a video or any large object on the first page as this would kill your bandwidth, and monthly data transfer rates. I'm sure not every one wants to watch the film every time they access the page and so would probably be better of as an article in a menu somewhere.

just a penny's worth of useless advice ;)
