... more of the same

Post by Kosse »

Well, this has been talked OVER and OVER again... yet... no pasa nada :?
While OG is back (all rise and clap in ur hands) we have a new 1.2.7 in progress. Good. Still, 4 BIG DISADVANTAGES of phpwcms remain:
- user groups (FE, BE...)
- template handling (Why is the great MOD not implemented???...:(
- image handling (all mods need to do crazy things in code just to get around the HASH, which till now nobody understood why it's there???...)
- MENU implementation... (I know quite a few exist but all in all, you spend like 30% of ur total time on a phpwcms site tweaking and trying to have a menu that fits into your pages/site)
Ok, it's easier to spot the weaknesses then praize all the good (which imo still prevails on the bad :) Those disadvantages are not all of the same nature, some can be coded (some need a re-thinking of the whole system?...), some need to be talked about...

IMHO, not good to change the whole 1.2.7 and "kill" the mods that worked with 1.2.6, that is the perfect way to scare pple away, specially the gifted coders who devoted their time and efforts in bringing a plus to phpwcms...

Yet again, the eternal discussion about having a STABLE system with shortcomings or a system THAT MOVES with some flaws (that can be corrected)...

Well, long live phpwcms (and this is not sarcastic)!
Cheers

Hmhm, would be nice and makes phpwcms suitable for new webprojects

If you now how it works, the existing template handling is ok... But of course, it would be easier and faster if we have a template exchange plattform... But at the end it depends all on the template quality...

Jup! I don't understand why i have to upload pictures with phpwcms filemanager instead of ftp. I'm working on the pictures before i upload them, so for me its no problem to bring them into the right shape and put them on the server using ftp... I don't need phpwcms doing that for me...
I know: Regarding usermanagement it's easier to do the upload with phpwcms than installing ftp-clients and tuning ftp-server with userrights... But don't forget - there are single user websites like mine. So both ways schould be possible...

Uffff, you're right! Last time i tried about 7 different menu-RTs to have a simple navigation that works like i will... We need a very flexible menu system - otherwise the pagedesign and functionaly will be very limited... And all the websites look the same...

I fully agree with Marcos point. Hey, I ONLY use phpwcms. :) And if I would update one of my non payed sites.. IT WOULD BE EMPTY :D

All full of exdata_mod.

In this past year mods became urgent .... very urgent.

my rusty 2 cents

Same here, I've stopped updating so that I don't have to impement all the modifications agin and again. Could there not be a system where ppl could develop mod's and add ons that can be somehow installed and uninstalled through the backend?
