Step 1 works - step 2 Hangs

Post by jsw_nz »

Windows - PHP4

I was able to create the tables for the cms (step 1)
(so this confirms mysql user/pass is good

Yet on the second step (step 2) of setup these error messages were displayed after submission:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'db_user'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\bware.co.nz\httpdocs\setup\setup.php on line 100

Warning: mysql_select_db(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\bware.co.nz\httpdocs\setup\setup.php on line 101

Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\bware.co.nz\httpdocs\setup\setup.php on line 108

Never seen this one - perplexed

Any ideas?

Of course, the changes to the file are "basically" these three additions:

Code: Select all

$phpwcms["charset"]           = slweg($_POST["charset"]);

Code: Select all

mysql_query("SET NAMES '".$phpwcms["charset"]."'", $db);

Code: Select all

mysql_query("SET NAMES '".$phpwcms["charset"]."'", $db);
Which are beneficial, but can cause little character issues during connections (depending on MySQL version, MySQL database character set default/chosen, browser setting for encoding , etc.)

You could try "commenting" them out and re-running setup -OR- maybe messing around with... making sure your browser encoding and database character set match what you have chosen in "conf.inc.php" at $phpwcms["charset"]. Perhaps those will make a difference. :?

Thanks guys

Pappnase
I sent the administrator of host an email - becuase I think it is some strange db isssue - another person had a simialr second login problem after installing phpbb...also I had issues earlier today.....still not sure what is going on...the table was created so at least for this - the connection with user/pass is valid - somewhere in the second step something goes wrong.

Dexxus - you always have great answers, but often enough - you are a wee bit over my head (slow learner here) - my commonsense says that iso-8859-1 is all pretty standard for charset (server is here in new zealand) - and besides - not sure what to tinker with, based on your knowledgable reply.

Ae you suggesting that I comment out
$phpwcms["charset"] = slweg($_POST["charset"]);
?

Cheers to all,
but here....its a wee bit unhappy atm

Don't overthink :P
Commenting them out... is like going back to the file from the last version of phpWCMS
.... so DO THAT--> as a test. :wink: If it works... there's your problem!

As to character set, the default setting in "conf.inc.php" of latest archive is this:

Code: Select all

$phpwcms["charset"]           = "UTF-8";       //default charset "iso-8859-1"
Now just imagine... if your browser encoding was using maybe Latin1 and phpWCMS is trying to use UTF-8 while MySQL is looking for ISO-8859-1. Possible "hiccup"! LOL :lol: I think that is the aim of those new code statements towards compatibility with all facets of the connection and towards the aim of UTF-8 universality.

Well, i tried both basic settings:

phpwcms['charset'] = "UTF-8"
phpwcms['charset'] = "iso-8859-1"

neither worked on step 2, hmmm.....

phpMyAdmin states:

MySQL 4.1.12-nt running on localhost:3306
MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)
MySQL connection collation: utf8_general_ci

MySQL connection collation has options...which i have not explored yet.

With regards to the version of phpwcms - its 1.2.6 from December of last year, and does not have the modifications you mentioned. Still awaiting reply from hosting company itself. thanks for your input, still havent fixed, but i think the issues you raised are spot on. - Those new modifications to wcms I will get by downloading April build off of sourceforge - and give it another go.

It is either paths / permissions -OR- something with /tmp folder on server (full or missing or path to)

Ok, the file manager 'sort of' works - again a windows os

HOWEVER, when i upload a file
just before completion. wcms boots me out to login interface
(essentially i have to login again) - the file was uploaded, but this is strange behavior indeed - any ideas - never, never seen this one

i think the core windows framework is substandard - still looking for ways to get it to work, without going to another hosting service.

The Fckeditor wysiwyg still does not work, also cannot change editors in config files - another strange one - so guessing further permissions need to be made here. - confused

Cheers,

Well
the wyswyg editor (fck) is now working.

But I still have the persistent problem
that AFTER initiating file upload (via filemanger) -
the screen refreshes after upload and sends me to

wcms login interface

Quite annoying really -
and still wanted to ask if others might have an idea
about fixing this....

I suppose this is a question for Oliver himself

All best :D

Anybody have any ideas....

DeXXus, Oliver?

This problem still exists:
Being booted out to login page AFTER successful upload
of file to wcms file manager.

Could this be a permissions/ownership issue
related to setup of server - Windows

IIS is such a *BEAR*!

-Maybe you should turn ON all errors, warnings, notices, etc. in PHP.INI (to see if something shows up when it happens).
-Are there any Server logs or PHP logs or MySQL logs that can be examined further?
-I presume the permissions and user rights for IUSR_MachineName account are set to read/execute php.exe and its parent directories.
-Could be because of numerous differences when IIS is running as CGI/FastCGI instead of ISAPI, etc.
-There is always potential issues with Server environment variables such as:
$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']
$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']
-Sometimes IIS adds "index.php" to end when it returns $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']

With PHP 5.x on IIS as CGI, you might try these PHP.INI settings:
1) cgi.force_redirect = 0
2) cgi.fix_pathinfo=1
3) make sure doc_root is commented out

Just wild guessing, sorry! :oops:
