Multiple content on one page

I want to display bits of diffrent articles on the home page

for example:

The home page contains news, with three main stories. I want these three boxes to display short sumary text with links to the relevant article on a different page.

These articles are going to be edited by students, will they be able to open the seperate articles update them and the home page will automatically take a snippit of that article to display?

If not how should I approach this

any help greatly appreciated!

you have the possibiliety to show the last edited articles on the frontpage with {NEW:7} and of corse this will help:
