I would say the list and article templates is a great feature of Wcms...very flexible for designing and 'fine-tuning' layouts.
Having said that, I visited a recent completed site, that has been handed over to the client. I did provide a video explanation of the template drop down and the suggestion to copy and paste a given article in the category to preserve settings. Unfortunately they did not follow the directions and instead built an article listing using standard defaults. ....and it sticks out like a sore thumb....in final page....argh
So my feature request would be......
to include a parameter for standard templates withing a given category, such that when they (clients) create a brand new article the list and article templates are preselected. I know this seems like asking alot...but I am only thinking about the client. Generally speaking they have little time to absorb the details of a situation (unlike developers).
I have no clear idea how to accomplish this, other than to record the last used template for list and article that would show up in a defaults drop down box. In principle the choices of templates for a given category, might form an additional column in site category data...with the ability to change/alter using dropdown selection box.
Just a thought...
Clients are like sheep...do not know too much and do not want to spend time resolving (or even learning) new stuff....again, unlike developers.....
Preselection of list and article templates
Have a look and find pSoupers posting:

Re: Preselection of list and article templates
Exactly my point in post mentionned by Pepe, but sheeps make wool and wool is good (necessary) when you're cold, so let us be nice shepperds and lead them gracefullyjsw_nz wrote: Clients are like sheep...do not know too much and do not want to spend time resolving (or even learning) new stuff....again, unlike developers.....

Thanks for the heads up on this topic....Kosse
Sorry I did not read these threads posted earlier. Yes, pSoupers approach is a step in the right direction. Pepe...good luck on your upgrading strategy....
Ideally speaking, article and list template defaults could be set within page templates section of backend....so basicaly in addition to applying layouts there, you would have two additional drops downs (list and article)I am guessing that a hack is doable...but hopefully OliG has this on his todo list. This would greatly enhance this 'designer friendly' feature of Wcms, which sets it apart from a lot of other cms systems. Setting defaults would ensure that they are preselected, but not set in stone...or in other words the user could overide preselected defaults by simply chossing another option in the article summary section.
Got to believe that this is a logical extension of this feature....hoping it gets implemented.
