Dutch company site, also my first PHP WCMS try

Post by Audax »

This is my first site made with php wcms.
I'm still learning all the features, but this is what i made so far:
http://www.bsgmedia.nl/index.php

It's the company site for my parents, not completely finished but
pretty close to opening. What do you think?

looks good so far...
I would add some space between the top of your design and the browser.

Also look into using the CSS REPTag for the menu, as it will speed up the site.

thanks for your comment!
i will have a look at it very soon.
I only don't know what you mean with your second suggestion,
Also look into using the CSS REPTag for the menu, as it will speed up the site
I know the site can be slow sometimes at the homepage, with the moving header, but on the static header pages it's pretty fast as far as i know..

Hi Audax,

---------------------------
you don't have to have a header that weights 89kb, actually the only thing you need as an image is your logo. You can also optimize your gif, I'm sure you don't actually need so many layers to achieve your effect.
The text on right side can be just text (specially as it is not aliased)

Or you can use flash, that kind of animation should weight at most 10k

Cheers

hey kosse,

i know you're right, it was just easier for me to make the header this way. One .gif and thats it. Your defenitily right with the amount of layers  , i should and will have a second look at that. But i never had a problem with the header so far. I've never had a lack of speed because of the 89kb size.
If so, if you experience the site running slow, and i mean the whole site and not only the frontpage, i would really like to know so i can do something about it.
Anymore comments on the layout maybe? I would like to have some more feedback. Thanks in advance!

Hi Audax,

don't worry, I'm lazzy myself ;) (means I do that often 2, just put an image and after care about the weight and so on...)
Just that in FF your animated gif isn't animated

Otherwise, the speed of your homepage/site is fine with me, no problem!
Everything shows up quickly.

As for other improvements, maybe add a little something to your Titles, i.e.
and use Orange for title?

Hehe,

thanks for the comment, but it's a client design.
They want it to be like this, i'll make sure they get it like this.
They wanted a clean and simple straight design, because they
think that looks professional. They're happy with it, so so am i! :D

Cheers!
