Other extensions than php, shtml, phtml, etc

Hi,

how is it possible to get the pages created by phpwcms as .shtml file (or any other ext). Ive seen some sites with ".phtml". I have to add something into the .htaccess file I guess, but what exactly?
And is it possible that this works with more directories?
E.g. I create aliases like "test/test/gallery.shtml" and it automatically shows the content created with "index.php?test/test/gallery or something like that?
