If you have a PHP version <4.2.1 you should not continue – recommend PHP version >4.3.0.

For using the graphical text mod with full support for all functions, you must use PHP >= 4.3.2

Graphical Text is an extra modul for phpWCMS.
You must not use this module.
Why do want to run under PHP 4.1.1?
If this version runs on your provider, ask him to move your space on a server with a better version.
Yesterday, i ask my provider and now (one day later) my space runnig under PHP 4.3.10

customers, and it is running debian 3.0's php4 packages (php 4.1.x).
It is not easy to switch the whole server over to a version of PHP compiled
from source.
Hey dude,
as phpwcms is so 'self contained' and easy to insatll/unistall I doubt it would take you thes than 15 mins install and a further 30 to setup a template, add an article that included one of all content parts, upload a file in file manager then send a newsletter positng (to yourself). Then you would really know if it is working under your version of php
maybe the best way to know the flavour is to 'suck it and see'
probably not the least helpful advice in the world but close
