[ID] replacement tag

Is it possible to assign a CSS class to the [ID] tag???

I don't need this for all links however, just a navigation menu, so modifying the source to output an anchor with this class is probably a bad idea.

If this can't be done...how can I get the URL for the category only???

My menu has a link to FAQ which in turn is actually a category with articles under it. However I don't need the URL for the articles, but rather the category?
